Guest noomsybaby Posted February 14, 2006 Report Posted February 14, 2006 Mot time coming up for missus' motor and the handbrake on warning light doesn't light up when you put the handbrake on. Does anyone know if this would be a MOT failure or not ??? Got that sinking feeling this MOT will cost me !!!! Thanks in advance Neil Quote
familyman Posted February 14, 2006 Report Posted February 14, 2006  as long as handbrake works o.k. it shouldn't be a problem Quote
Guest noomsybaby Posted February 14, 2006 Report Posted February 14, 2006 thanks one less thing to worry about Quote
Pineappleman Posted February 16, 2006 Report Posted February 16, 2006 Yeah they test the handbrake only not the light. Just to say my work car (Escort) Failed the MOT because it had a fault with the electrics i rigged the fuse box to get it through. To sum up all lights worked but the lights only worked with the ignition on and when the ignition was on the side and tail lights were always on. Not a problem i thought and if it failed i had 14 days to fix the problem and was only waiting for the spare part to fix. However the garage failed it because the lights did not work with out the ignition on and then told me they no longer did a free retest within 14 days, I was fuming as there website stated a free retest in 14 days plus i didnt think the lights not working unless the ignition was on should fail the MOT after all you cant drive without the ignition being on. I explained to the garage all this and they were having none of it so i went home and spoke to VOSA who agreed with me and since then have tested my car and passed it. The delight i had with telling the garage they suck was priceless but they still refuse to agree with VOSA so if in doubt appeal the failed MOT. PS VOSA refunded me the MOT fee. Quote

Doncha just love it when you can sh?ft the person when was trying to sh?ft you !!! I would report the garage to trading standards as well, advertising no retest fee and then not giving it is illegal (check the small print tho, some only give no retest fee if left at garage ) Name and shame so we don't end up going to it !!! Masked Marauder Posted February 17, 2006 Report Posted February 17, 2006 If you appeal an MOT test result then the VOSA charge the full test fee and refund it if you are successful. They will contact the original testing station and point out the error of their ways! The VOSA also carry out checks on MOT stations by submitting cars for tests. Quote
gregers Posted February 18, 2006 Report Posted February 18, 2006 i had a car that failed on a tyre, took to a local fast fit centre they said nothing wrong with it,even there m.o.t tester said he wouldve passed it,now doesnt it make you wonder just how much where being ripped off, they seem to have to much range in the pass or fail senario. Masked Marauder Posted February 18, 2006 Report Posted February 18, 2006 The MOT station that I use does not do tyres, it does not do exhausts and it does not do repairs. And the tester knows me, and knows that I pretty much know MOT rules as well as a non-tester can. Quote
